massage is maintenance

About Me

Image

My name is Natalie and I have lived in beautiful Mid Wales with my husband and family for over 24 years. I have been massaging family and friends organically for a while after having the urge to want to help those struggling with their physical or mental challenges.

I was told by many that I had healing hands and encouraged to do this as a vocation. I was inspired even further after seeing the immediate and long-term benefits that massage can bring. I have done my training and qualifications and have been practicing ever since.

My mantra is "massage is maintenance" and one of the many ways to support our bodies as part of a healthy routine. Massage is a great way to reduce the risk of injury, illness and stress and a worthy investment in our physical and mental wellbeing.

I offer a professional massage service and I am trained in a variety of different techniques. I am a member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists and I am fully insured.

Techniques

Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage is the best-known type of bodywork performed today. One of the primary goals of this massage technique is to relax the entire body and mind. However Swedish massage therapy goes beyond relaxation. It is also known as an ‘active massage’ as there are certain element of stretching muscles/fascia during this treatment along with gentle manipulation of the joints.

Swedish massage is exceptionally beneficial for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, and improving circulation and flexibility while easing tension.

Swedish massage is holistic therapy. The word ‘holistic’ means treating the whole person. Not just the presenting condition but all conditions which may or may not appear.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue massage is a specific type of massage therapy that concentrates on the deep layers of muscle and fascia (connective tissue) in the body.

As Deep Tissue massage is all about working with the layers, it starts by softening the superficial (surface) layers first and moving slowly into the deeper layers.

Deep Tissue is a massage in which the primary goal is less about general relaxation and more about promoting change in the actual structure of the body. There are elements to Deep Tissue that are soothing but it is not a relaxing massage as such.

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger Point Therapy is a neuromuscular therapy designed to speed up recovery from injury, correct muscular imbalances and relieve pain.

A trigger point is a localized, tender spot within the muscle that feels like a nodule or what clients refer to as a knot. Trigger Points can occur because of muscle overuse, mucsle trauma (injury), or psychological stress when some of the muscle fibres will stay bunched together creating this tender nodule: the trigger point.

Trigger Point Therapy is not a relaxing treatment as when applying pressure to these points, it aggravates the pain briefly but then releases and relieves muscle tension. It is not a standalone treatment and is usually incorporated with Swedish or Deep Tissue techniques.

Myofascial Cupping

Cupping Therapy is one of the oldest forms of medical treatment available. Originating in Eastern China and Africa, this method of treatment is chosen to relieve pain and tension in the body using the application and suction pressure of plastic or glass cups.

Most manual massage techniques are based on compression of the muscles and other tissues whereas myofascial cupping uses a combination of massage strokes and negative pressure to lift, separate, and stretch underlying soft tissues.

Cups are placed on specific points of the body to release localised acute and chronic tension and help to increase blood flow to the area. This is not a standalone treatment and usually combined with Swedish massage techniques.

Indian Head Massage

Indian Head massage also known as “Champi” or “Champissage” in Hindi and Urdu has been in practise for more than a thousand years. It is a relaxing holistic treatment that focuses on massaging acupressure points on the head, neck, face and shoulders with the aim of stimulating blood flow, improving lymphatic drainage and rebalancing the body's energies.

The processes of Indian head massage therapy are based on the principle of the ancient Indian practice Ayurveda; its aim is to balance the body, mind, and spirit to promote a long life using the flow of energy or chakras in the body. The Ayurvedic principles believe that massage of all types, promotes strong muscles and skin, and good health and encouraged the body's natural healing powers.

Indian Head massage is traditionally performed seated and can release muscle tension and spasms more powerfully in this area. The techniques can also be incorporate into massage whilst lying down.

FAQ's

How do I book an appointment ?
Appointments can be made by telephone, text, email, via this website or Dovetail Facebook Messenger.

Cancellation Policy
Please note - there is a strict 24 hour cancellation policy as I respectfully ask clients to consider my time and my livelihood. If you cancel at short notice or simply miss your appointment for any reason i.e. illness, injury, emergency, alien abduction....you will be charged in FULL for the session.
It is fully appreciated that ‘things happen’ so every effort will be taken by DMT to try and fill your appointment at the last minute. If this is possible, you will not be charged.
You are also welcome to send someone in your place. Please ensure you advise of this prior to them arriving.

Do you do walk-in appointments ?
No, all appointments are booked in advance. If a client is unwell or unable to attend, last minute appointments are posted on the Dovetail Facebook page. Be quick though….as they usually get snapped up.

What length of session should I go for ?
This is entirely up to you and will depend on why you are coming, your available time and your personal finances. We do however need to be realistic about what can be achieved during a session i.e. it’s simply not possible to address 20 years of issues in 1 hour! A longer session or multiple sessions may need to be considered.

Is there anything I need to do as a new client ?
If you have any particular medical condition/s, please advise of this before arriving for your appointment. Please also check with your Dr, Consultant, or Healthcare provider etc. that having a massage is suitable for you.
As a new client, you will need to complete a Consultation Form on arrival. An extra 15 minutes is added to your appointment time to complete and go through this form.

How do I find you ?
Dovetail Massage Therapy is based in Trefeglwys, Powys. Once you have booked an appointment, you will be sent your booking email confirming your appointment date & time with additional details (i.e. location, parking info, T&C’s, etc).

Is there parking on site ?
Yes, both off road and on road parking is available.

How accessible is your treatment room?
The Garden Room is on the ground floor but please note - there is one step up from ground level.

What shall I wear to my appointment ?
Wearing loose fitting clothes is easier with regards to undressing/dressing. Your privacy and comfort levels are respected at all times and you will be covered over on areas that aren’t being worked on during your session. Underwear or loose fitting shorts MUST be worn at all times during the session.

What do you put on my skin ?
Only quality products with quality ingredients are used. There are a selection of scented blended massage waxes alongside unscented oils for you to choose from. If you have any skin conditions or allergies, please advise of this in advance of your appointment.

Is it ok to talk during the massage ?
Some clients enjoy the stillness and like to relax into meditation. Some clients feel uncomfortable with stillness and prefer to talk in order to unwind. Some clients prefer a combination of stillness and conversation. There is no right or wrong here. Your session, your preference.

Do you play music during the session?
There is usually gentle background music playing but if you would prefer your session to be without any music, please advise of this when you arrive. Your session, your preference.

How often should I have a massage ?
As often as you can !! Massage should not be seen as just a luxury. Massage is maintenance and one of the many ways to support your body as part of a healthy routine. Massage is a great way to reduce the risk of injury, illness and stress. Massage is ultimately a worthy investment in both your physical and mental wellbeing.

How do I pay ?
Payments can be made by Card, Bank Transfer or Cash. Payment is taken at the end of each session.

Do you sell gift vouchers ?
Yes Click here to buy. Gift cards are available for ALL budgets either as full treatments i.e. 1 hour/£45, 1.5 hours/£65 or 2 hours/£80 or money off treatments in any denomination.

I have been bought a gift voucher but massage isn’t for me. Can I get a refund instead ?
All gift vouchers are non-refundable. Please re-gift the voucher to someone else who would appreciate it and benefit from a treatment.

Does massage hurt ?
Massage does not have to hurt to be effective and the ‘no pain/no gain’ sentiment can actually be damaging to this sort of work. Pain and pressure tolerance varies from person to person so communication is key. Too much/too little pressure ? Let me know.

Do you do prenatal/pregnancy massage ?
No. I am not trained or insured to perform pregnancy massage.

I want to bring my friend/family member/partner to their appointment, may I wait inside during their session?
You are welcome to bring your friend/family member/partner to their appointment but please note - I do not have a waiting room/toilet facilities for non-clients.

Do you massage male clients ?
Yes, preferably via referrals from existing clients.

Do you give happy endings ?
It is really disappointing that in this day and age, Massage Therapists can still get confused with Sex Workers. I am a trained, qualified, insured, professional Massage Therapist and offer a STRICTLY PROFESSIONAL MASSAGE ONLY. There is a ZERO tolerance policy for any inappropriate behaviour (verbal or physical) and such action will result in the session being terminated immediately with FULL payment due. All details will be shared with the Police and other Massage Therapists in the area. ZERO TOLERANCE. RESPECT MASSAGE.

Why is there so much detail for a massage ?
Every professional business big or small, will have informative T&C’s for their clients. This negates any grey areas or misinformation. As a Sole Practitioner, my relationship with my clients is built on a foundation of mutual respect and trust. As a condition of working with me, it is vital that my clients understand and support my T&C’s. Once you book a session, full details of these T&C’s (i.e. health & safety, privacy policy, cancellations etc). will be emailed over for review. They are not outlined on the website due to the possibility of plagiarism and professional infringements.
